Maji Singh (Mandhir Singh Ubhi) is a passionate linguist based in the UK. He holds an MSc in Adult Nursing and a BA in Classics with Modern Languages from King’s College London. Drawing from his clinical experiences, cultural background and translation work, Maji create Vahari as a speculative conlang and mythos that seeks to create a vision of shared humanity by exploring the origins of language and the metaphysics of identity. He is the founder of Gavialis Ltd., a linguistic consultancy for health and social care. He speaks Arabic, Bulgarian, French, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Panjabi, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili and Urdu. In his spare time, he composes pieces for the piano and enjoys exploring the intersection of musicology and linguistics.
Vahari: The First Attestation of the Language and Its Mythology is a speculative constructed language project rooted in a probabilistic model of linguistic evolution. Vahari is a semi–a priori fusional language featuring both concatenative and non-concatenative morphology.
The attestation, including narrative, translation, transliteration, and accompanying grammar, serves as a central text for the Vahari language, culture, and philosophy. The myth centres on a cosmogeny grounded in modern physics, theologising scientific theories and deifying fundamental forces of nature before advancing through symbolic representations of evolution and civilisation.
The language emerged alongside the mythology: as the mythos was constructed, the syntactic and grammatical architecture developed in tandem. This process revealed structural patterns and linguistic behaviours, which were then refined into both descriptive and prescriptive grammatical rules. Irregularities, drift, and syncretism were deliberately retained to mirror the organic evolution of natural languages.
Vahari serves as the linguistic and mythological foundation for The Celestarium, a novel that explores language, involuntary memory, and history, intended to express modern ethical concerns through a mythological-scientific lens, weaving narratives that evoke intercultural resonance and a shared human experience.
